A scandal is a widely publicized incident involving allegations of wrong-doing, disgrace, or moral outrage. A scandal may be based on reality, or the product of false allegations, or a mixture of both.Some scandals are broken by a whistle-blower revealing wrongdoing within an organization or a group. Falsely alleged scandals can lead to a witch-hunt against the innocent. Sometimes an attempt to cover up a scandal ignites a greater scandal when the cover-up fails. Un scandale est une affaire retentissante où des individus, connus le plus souvent, sont mis en cause et subissent une humiliation publique. Il peut aussi s'agir de sociétés qui procèdent à certaines opérations ou qui tolèrent certaines pratiques, lesquelles ne sont pas légalement ou moralement acceptables.

Ein Skandal (aus dem Französ.; v. griech. skandalon Fallstrick, Kieselstein) (verharmlosend: Affäre) ist die Bezeichnung für ein bekannt gewordenes Ereignis oder Verhalten, das von der jeweiligen Gesellschaft als  abweichend betrachtet wird. Heutzutage wird jenes abweichende Verhalten meist mittels der Medien publik gemacht und zielt darauf ab, möglichst hohes Aufsehen zu erregen (siehe dazu auch "Investigativer Journalismus").

Utwór opowiada o niechcianym przez gitarzystę zainteresowaniu prasy jego rozwodem i małżeństwie z aktorką Anitą Dobson. Zainteresowanie tabloidów zespołem i ukrywaną wtedy chorobą Freddiego Mercury'ego (AIDS), było wtedy bardzo duże.

Skandal – kontrowersyjna sprawa w mediach. Termin podobny do afery, ale przy analizie spraw nazywanych aferą i skandalem można zauważyć, że skandalem nazywana jest każda głośniejsza sprawa w mediach, a aferą zazwyczaj sprawy z udziałem władz publicznych bądź znanych i wpływowych osobistości życia publicznego. Ocena doniosłości sprawy dokonywana ex post nie musi wcale się pokrywać z początkowo używanym określeniem skandal lub afera. Często skandale mają naturę obyczajową (ujawnienie romansu, kłamstwa itp.).
