sandal (footwear)

Sandals are an open type of footwear, consisting of a sole held to the wearer's foot by straps or thongs passing over the instep and around the ankle. While the distinction between sandals and other types of footwear can sometimes be blurry (as in the case of huaraches—the woven leather footwear seen in Mexico), the common understanding is that a sandal reveals most or all of the foot (especially the toes) to view. People may choose to wear sandals for several reasons, among them economy (sandals tend to require less material than shoes), comfort in warm weather, and (especially for women) for reasons of fashion and attractiveness.

Sandały - rodzaj otwartego obuwia składającego się z podeszwy i rzemyków, które utrzymują sandał na stopie. Niekiedy jeden z pasków przechodzi pomiędzy dużym palcem, a następnym. Noszenie skarpet do sandałów jest uwarunkowane modą i lokalnymi, środowiskowymi zwyczajami. Przy dłuższych wycieczkach skarpeta zabezpiecza stopę przed otarciami. Sandały są szczególnie lubiane przez kobiety, lecz coraz częściej noszą je też mężczyźni. Ostatnio dużą popularność wśród obydwu płci zdobyły sportowe sandały. Sportowe sandały zapewniają wysoki komfort noszenia (często mają poduszki powietrzne w podeszwach, wygodne materiałowe lub materiałowo-skórzane paski). Najnowsza metoda tworzenia podeszw - metoda bezpośredniego wtrysku - umożliwia bardzo dobre dostosowanie się podeszwy do stopy.

Een sandaal is een zeer oud type schoeisel. In zijn eenvoudigste vorm bestaat een sandaal uit een zool van tamelijk stug materiaal die met touw of leren riemen onder de voetzool wordt gebonden om tijdens het lopen de voet te beschermen.
