Sand trap
A sand trap can be:another word for a
bunker in the game of
golf.another name for a
safety siding designed to stop runaway
railroad cars.another word for a gravel bed (the term used by the
FIA) for those with fine gravel or sand filled hollows beside some motor
racing tracks that should stop competitors as soon as possible after leaving the actual course by accident. Sand traps/gravel beds are also sometimes called "kitty litter". This term describes two things: the absorbent powder used to soak up fluid spills on the track (often real kitty litter) and the gravel runoff areas on the outside of many road course turns that help slow cars that go off the track.
