Today it is home to around 600,000 people, mostly impoverished factory workers. It was once a self-contained, self-ruled Republic with international scope, situated on the mouth of the Bou Regreg river on the Atlantic coast.

Salé ist eine Stadt in Marokko. Sie liegt am Ufer des Bou-Regreg, gegenüber von Rabat, der Hauptstadt von Marokko.Salé wurde im 11. Jahrhundert gegründet. Sie ist die Schwesterstadt von Rabat. Salé war Rabats ständige Rivalin und über Jahrzehnte die wichtigste Hafenstadt des Landes. Bereits 1162 errichtet Genua hier einen Stützpunkt.Im Jahre 1146 wurde die Küstenregion Marokkos durch den Almohaden Abd al-Mumin annektiert, der Salé zerstören ließ. 1260 besetzten spanische (kastilische) Söldner kurzzeitig die Stadt.

In generale, i sali sono composti ionici sotto forma di cristalli. Sono solitamente solubili in acqua, dove i due ioni si separano. I sali hanno tipicamente un elevato punto di fusione, bassa durezza, e bassa comprimibilità. Se fusi o dissolti in acqua conducono elettricità, comportandosi da conduttori di seconda specie.
