This is differentiated from Clinical depression which is marked by symptoms that last two weeks or more and are so severe that they interfere with daily living.In the field of psychiatry the word depression can also have this meaning but more specifically refers to a mental illness when it has reached a severity and duration to warrant a diagnosis. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) states that a depressed mood is often reported as being: "... depressed, sad, hopeless, discouraged, or 'down in the dumps'."

Ṣād ist der 14. Buchstabe des arabischen Alphabets. Er ist aus dem phönizischen Sade hervorgegangen und dadurch mit dem (heute nicht mehr verwendeten) griechischen San und dem hebräischen Tzade verwandt. Im lateinischen Alphabet findet sich keine direkte Entsprechung. Ihm ist der Zahlenwert 90 zugeordnet.

Sie kann Teil einer Trauerreaktion sein, aber auch auf andere unerwünschte Ereignisse wie soziale Ablehnung, das Verfehlen eines persönlichen Ziels oder nichterfüllte Erwartungen folgen. Mit Traurigkeit kann eine Emotion, aber auch das entsprechende subjektive Gefühlserleben bezeichnet werden.

Sad - to obszar rolniczy, na którym występują drzewa owocowe zasadzone przez rolnika, zwanego sadownikiem lub przez rolniczą spółdzielnię produkcyjną na własnym terenie bądź na terenie przekazanym w wieczyste użytkowanie przez Skarb Państwa, jednostki samorządu terytorialnego lub ich związki bądź na terenie dzierżawionym od właściciela  nieruchomości. Według przepisów kodeksu cywilnego drzewa posadzone przez rolniczą spółdzielnie produkcyjną na wieczyście użytkowanym terenie stanowią własność tejże spółdzielni, natomiast przez sadownika nie stanowią jego własności, pomimo ich trwałego związania z gruntem.
