Not to be confused with Provençal which is a dialect of the Occitan language. Franco-Provençal (Francoprovençal) or Arpitan or Romand (Vernacular: ; ; ) is a Romance language with several distinct dialects that form a linguistic sub-group separate from Langue d'Oïl and Langue d'Oc. The name Franco-Provençal was given to the language by G.I. Ascoli in the 19th century because it shared features with French and Provençal without belonging to either. Although the name is well established, there is some dissatisfaction with it. The neologism Arpitan is becoming a popular name for the language and the people who speak it.

Le francoprovençal, ou arpitan, est l'une des trois langues gallo-romanes, les autres étant l'occitan et la langue d'oïl (dont le français est une variété). Cet ensemble de parlers qui n'a jamais connu une norme unique, en régression, a subi un morcellement en de nombreux dialectes. Présentant tantôt des traits communs avec les parlers de langue d’oïl (d'où le nom franco) et ceux de langue d’oc (d'où le nom de provençal), elle n'en est pas pour autant un mélange de français et d'occitan, mais constitue un groupe linguistique gallo-roman distinct.

Románd - wieś i gmina w północno-zachodniej części Węgier, w pobliżu miasta Pannonhalma.Miejscowość leży na obszarze Małej Niziny Węgierskiej. Administracynie należy do powiatu Pannonhalma, wchodzącego w skład komitatu Győr-Moson-Sopron.Gmina Románd liczy 332 mieszkańców (2001 r.) i zajmuje obszar 9,85 km².

Język franko-prowansalski, względnie arpitański (frp. arpitan lub arpetan), to zespół dialektów romańskich używanych we Włoszech (Valle d'Aosta, Piemont), w Szwajcarii (kantony Fryburg, Valais, Vaud i Genewa) oraz we Francji (Rodan-Alpy, Prowansja-Alpy-Wybrzeże Lazurowe). Dialekty te mają charakter przejściowy między językiem francuskim a językiem prowansalskim. Obszar występowania dialektów jest w nich nazywany Arpitania, Arpetania lub Francoprovencia. W krainie Bresse (frp. Brêsse lub Brecha) we Francji jest używany dialekt Brassè. Inne dialekty nazywają się Lyonè i Savoyârd.

Франкопрованса́льский язы́к (арпитанский язык; ) — романский язык (галло-романская подгруппа), распространённый на юго-востоке Франции, в романской Швейцарии и северо-западной Италии. Во Франции часто рассматривается как «говоры», «местный диалект» (патуа) либо включается в окситанский язык; официальных функций не имеет. Полуофициальный статус имеет в нескольких регионах Италии.
