De publicatie, een initiatief van Hans Baaij, directeur van Varkens in Nood, en Noor Evertsen, auteur op het gebied van dier en recht, komt op voor de rechten van dieren, met name van gehouden dieren. Daarbij valt te denken aan landbouwdieren, gezelschapsdieren, maar ook aan proefdieren en de bewoners van dierentuinen.
