A riding boot is a boot made to be used for horse riding. The classic boot comes high enough up the leg to prevent the leathers of the saddle from pinching the leg of the rider, has a sturdy toe to protect the rider's foot when on the ground, and has a distinct heel to prevent the foot from sliding through the stirrup. The sole is smooth or lightly textured to avoid being caught on the tread of the stirrup in the event of a fall.

Ridstövel är benämning på stövlar som används i samband med ridning. De kan vara gjorda av läder eller olika konstmaterial. Ridstövlar är ofta svarta till färgen, även om bruna ridstövlar också förekommer. I tävlingssammanhang används för det mesta svarta ridstövlar. En ridstövel har ett högt smalt skaft som når upp till strax under ryttarens knä. De har låga klackar för att förhindra att foten glider genom stigbygeln. På insidan kan ridstövlar ha öglor i vilka stövelpådragare kan träs in.

Mają sztywną i pozbawioną wyraźnego bieżnika podeszwę, która umożliwia prawidłowe oparcie stopy  w strzemieniu i umożliwia bezpieczne wysunięcie stopy  w razie upadku z konia. Cholewa jest często usztywniona w tylnej części tak, aby nie opadała i nie marszczyła się w dolnej części. Obuwie tego rodzaju używane jest także w wojsku jako element stroju paradnego. Do jazdy konnej używane są także wysokie buty wykonane z tworzyw sztucznych, gumy i PVC, podobne do skórzanych ale całkowicie nieprzemakalne. Są tańsze, ale nie dają tak dobrego ułożenia stopy w strzemionach jak skórzane. W zamian dają pełną ochrone przed przemakaniem, łatwo się je czyści i nie wymagają szczególnej konserwacji.
