rhythm section

A rhythm section includes the musicians in a jazz or popular music band or ensemble who establish the rhythmic pulse of a song or musical piece and lay down the chordal structure. The term "rhythm section" may also refer to the instruments in this group.The core elements of the rhythm section are the drums and a bass instrument (either double bass for Swing or Bebop jazz or a bass guitar for pop, fusion, R&B and funk). Both instruments lay down the pulse for the music, and the bass lays down the harmonic foundation with a bassline. Most groups also use chordal instruments in their rhythm sections, such as rhythm guitar, piano or other keyboard instruments, such as the electric piano, Hammond organ, or vibraphone.

Dans les groupes de musique apparentées au jazz (ou qui en sont dérivées), la section rythmique désigne deux ou trois instruments plus spécialement chargés du rythme et de l'accompagnement des morceaux. De tels instruments s'opposent par conséquent, d'une part aux instruments à dimension mélodique (violon, saxophone, flûte, trompette...), d'autre part aux instruments à dimension harmonique (piano, orgue, guitare, clavecin, accordéon...)

Der Begriff Rhythmusgruppe hat zwei Bedeutungen.Zum einen fasst man unter Rhythmusgruppe (oder auch Rhythmussektion, engl. rhythm section) die Musiker zusammen, die für den Rhythmus eines Musikstückes verantwortlich sind. Die Rhythmusgruppe besteht meist aus Schlaginstrumenten, wie Schlagzeug und/oder Percussion und Bassinstrumenten. Das Bassinstrument dient oft als Verbindungsglied zwischen dem Rhythmus und den harmonisch-melodischen Elementen der Musik.

Sekcja rytmiczna (ang. rhythm section) w zespole muzycznym to trzon zespołu, zawierający najczęściej perkusję i gitarę basową lub perkusję i kontrabas. Dodatkowo, w sekcji rytmicznej może znajdować się instrument harmoniczny, np. instrument klawiszowy lub gitara.Część zespołu nie będąca sekcją rytmiczną to instrumenty solowe (saksofon, trąbka) i wokaliści.

Ритм-группа (реже ритм-секция) — это русское профессиональное музыкальное понятие, обозначающее секцию в составе оркестров и ансамблей, функция которой заключается в исполнении базовой ритмической фактуры музыкального произведения. Обычно состоит из набора барабанов, бонгов, томов, тарелок, перкашена и баса (бас-гитары, редко 2-х бас гитар, или этнического басового инструмента). Часто функции ритма исполняют ритм-гитара, клавишные и синтезаторы или любые инструменты вполоть до человеческого голоса, но они прямо не относятся к ритм-группе.
