revelation

Revelation is an uncovering or disclosure via communication from the divine of something that has been partially or wholly hidden or unknown, "which could not be known apart from the unveiling" (Goswiller 1987 p. 3). In monotheistic religions, revelation is the process, or act of making divine information known, often through direct ontological realization which transcends the human state and reaches into the divine intellect. Revelation in a religious sense is that which God, a god, or other supernatural being such as an angel makes known about divine will, principles, laws and doctrines, although the realized principle can also be interpreted as the realizing principle.

La Révélation (on emploie généralement une majuscule dans cette acception du mot) est, pour une religion, la connaissance qu'elle affirme détenir de source divine. Les manifestations divines par lesquelles cette connaissance est parvenue aux hommes sont tantôt des apparitions (théophanies), tantôt l'inspiration à des prophètes de textes considérés comme sacrés. Les religions rattachées à la trilogie judaïsme-christianisme-islam, en particulier, sont dites révélées.

Bedeutung Unter Offenbarung versteht man das Sich-Erschließen eines Geheimnisses, etwas bislang Verborgenes wird enthüllt. Im Rechtswesen erklärt ein Schuldner mit dem Offenbarungseid, dass er bei der Darstellung seiner Vermögensverhältnisse nicht gelogen hat und dass er seinen Zahlungsverpflichtungen nicht nachkommen kann. Im religiösen Sprachgebrauch bezeichnet das Wort Offenbarung gewöhnlich eine auf übernatürlichem Wege stattfindende Mitteilung göttlicher Wahrheiten oder eines göttlichen Willens. Abkürzend nennt man auch das letzte Buch des Neuen Testaments (die Johannesapokalypse) schlicht Offenbarung, das Wort wird dann als Eigenname benutzt. Mitunter wird das Wort Offenbarung auch im übertragenen Sinne scherzhaft gebraucht („Das Essen war eine Offenbarung“).

Objawienie - w religiach objawionych jest to przesłanie, dzięki któremu Bóg ukazał się człowiekowi. W chrześcijaństwie podstawą tego przesłania jest tzw. "objawienie publiczne", czyli Pismo Święte, zaś tzw. "objawienia prywatne" nie mają wpływu na dogmaty i podstawy wiary. W judaizmie objawienie spisane zostało w Torze i w pismach proroków, zaś w islamie - w Koranie. "Objawienie" - żywe ukazanie się Boga osobowego, który ukazuje się jako Stwórca i Zbawiciel.
