代議民主制
代議民主制又稱間接民主制，是指立法機關的成員是由公民以選舉形式選出，並代表其在議會中行使權力（代議），與之相反的是直接民主制。除了在選舉中外，選民和被選者並無約束關係，即被選者在議會中的行為並無義務遵從選民的意願（會否影響他下次當選是另一回事）。美國和英國的政治體制，一般被視為西方代議政制的典範。
