Republica was an English band formed in 1994. The height of their popularity spanned from 1996 to 1998. The Republica sound was described by the band as "techno-pop punk rock", although Melody Maker took to calling it "electronica", a label which stuck as genre category.

Republica est un groupe de pop/rock qui naît en 1995 à Londres en Angleterre: Scaffron, la chanteuse rencontres les claviers Andy Todd et Tim Dorney. Ils commencent à écrire ensemble avant de rencontrer le guitariste Johnny Male et Dave Barborossa, le batteur. Ils débutent avec le single Out of Darkness, signé par le label indie-dance Deconstruction. Ils sortent ensuite l'album Republica et le single Ready to go qui cartonne et deveint un hit en Angleterre et aux USA. Et enfin en 1998 le deuxième album Speed Ballads.

Republica war eine britische Musikgruppe in den 1990er Jahren. Sie wurde 1994 gegründet. Ihre erfolgreichsten Singles waren „Ready To Go“ und „Drop Dead Gorgeous“.Republica setzte sich zur damaligen Zeit durch die für eine Crossover-Gruppe einmalige Besetzung und den dazugehörigen Sound ab. Erstmals wurden harte Gitarren mit weiblichen Vocals zu einer Mischung aus Crossover und Dance kombiniert. Eine Mischung, auf die später von anderen Künstlern (No Doubt, Pink, etc.) gerne und erfolgreich zurückgegriffen wurde.

Die Republik (über frz. république von lat. res publica, „öffentliche Angelegenheit“) ist eine Staatsform, die sich an Gemeinwesen und Gemeinwohl orientiert und seit der französischen Revolution in der Regel als Gegenmodell zur Monarchie verstanden wird. In den frühromantischen Schriften Friedrich Schlegels hingegen, also etwa zeitgleich zur französischen Revolution, wird der Republikanismus, d.h. die Orientierung der Politik am Gemeinwohl, durchaus als mit einer Monarchie vereinbar betrachtet.

Een republiek is een staat waar de macht bij een of meer personen ligt die de macht van het volk (democratie), het parlement of via een staatsgreep in handen gekregen hebben - soms ook van een bezettende buitenlandse macht. Een andere omschrijving is de staatsvorm waarbij geen regering door erfopvolging bestaat, dus een land dat geen monarchie is. Een republiek kan volgens Montesquieu zowel een democratie als een aristocratie zijn.
