Reality television
Reality television is a genre of
television programming which presents purportedly unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, documents actual events, and features ordinary people instead of professional actors. Although the genre has existed in some form or another since the early years of television, the term reality television is most commonly used to describe programs produced since
2000. Documentaries and nonfictional programming such as the news and sports shows are usually not classified as reality shows.

programów telewizyjnych, w których z reguły występują osoby wcześniej nie związane zawodowo z telewizją. Osoby te w założeniu mają zachowywać się "naturalnie" przed kamerą w sztucznie zaaranżowanej - niekiedy ekstremalnej - sytuacji. Wiele z programów ma postać konkursu. Istotą programu jest postawienie widza w roli "podglądacza"; z punktu widzenia oglądalności im bardziej będzie w programie naruszona intymność uczestnika i im drastyczniejsze sceny widz obejrzy, tym lepiej. "Reality show" rzadko bywa nadawany "na żywo"; z reguły jest to program rejestrowany i montowany - dla zdynamizowania akcji, ale i dla ustrzeżenia nadawcy przed przypadkowym przekazaniem treści, przekraczających granice dozwolone prawem. Pierwszym polskim reality-show był "Agent", nadany w telewizji
TVN.

Il reality show (dall'
inglese, traducibile come spettacolo della realtà, spesso semplicemente abbreviato reality) è un genere di
programma televisivo in cui sono trasmesse situazioni drammatiche e umoristiche non dettate da un copione ma che i protagonisti sperimentano esattamente come fosse la loro vita reale. Attorno a queste situazioni si costruisce una struttura di
nomination ed eliminazioni, di commento e critica, per cui alla fine tra i protagonisti che hanno partecipato al programma viene eletto, solitamente dal pubblico televisivo, un vincitore, cui spetta un premio molto appetibile (in genere grosse somme di denaro, contratti televisivi o discografici ecc.).
