Sexual intercourse, also known as copulation or coitus, commonly refers to the insertion of a male's penis into a female's vagina for the purposes of sexual pleasure or reproduction. The term may also describe other sexual penetrative acts, such as anal sex, oral sex and fingering, or use of a strap-on dildo, which can be practiced by heterosexual and homosexual pairings or more than two partners.

Un rapport sexuel est un acte sexuel impliquant plus d'un individu. Les termes « fornication » et « copulation » désignent également, parfois , un rapport sexuel. Des partenaires sexuels peuvent être de même sexe ou de sexes opposés. On désigne par coït la pénétration du pénis dans le vagin, l'anus (sodomie) ou la bouche (fellation) d'une ou d'un partenaire; un rapport sexuel n'implique toutefois pas forcément un coït.
