For industrial application see Radiography.Radiology is the medical specialty directing medical imaging technologies to diagnose and sometimes treat diseases. Originally it was the aspect of medical science dealing with the medical use of electromagnetic energy emitted by X-ray machines or other such radiation devices for the purpose of obtaining visual information as part of medical imaging. Radiology that involves use of x-ray is called roentgenology. Today, following extensive training, radiologists direct an array of imaging technologies (such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging) to diagnose or treat disease. Interventional radiology is the performance of (usually minimally invasive) medical procedures with the guidance of imaging technologies. The acquisition of medical imaging is usually carried out by the radiographer or radiologic technologist. Outside of the medical field, radiology also encompasses the examination of the inner structure of objects using X-rays or other penetrating radiation.

Die Radiologie ist das Teilgebiet der Medizin, das sich mit der Anwendung von Strahlen zu diagnostischen, therapeutischen und wissenschaftlichen Zwecken befasst. Die Pioniere der Radiologie sind in Wien zu finden. Noch bevor Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen die Entdeckung der X-Strahlen offiziell bekannt gab, erschien am 5. Januar 1896 in einer Wiener Zeitung die erste Pressemeldung über die „sensationelle Entdeckung“.Traditionell werden in der Radiologie Röntgenstrahlen verwendet. Darüber hinaus kommen andere ionisierende Strahlen, wie Gammastrahlung oder Elektronen zum Einsatz. Da ein wesentlicher Einsatzzweck die Bildgebung ist, werden auch andere bildgebende Verfahren wie die Sonografie und die Magnetresonanztomografie zur Radiologie gerechnet, obwohl bei diesen Verfahren keine Strahlen zum Einsatz kommen.

Radiologia - dziedzina medycyny oraz samodzielna specjalizacja lekarska zajmująca się obrazowaniem ciała człowieka, z wykorzystaniem promieniowania rentgenowskiego (tradycyjna rentgenografia, tomografia komputerowa, angiografia), pola magnetycznego - tomografia magnetycznego rezonansu jądrowego oraz ultradźwięków (ultrasonografia). Obecnie rozwija się również radiologia zabiegowa (interwencyjna, inwazyjna), której przedmiotem jest dokonywanie małoinwazyjnych zabiegów leczniczych np. angioplastyki, obliteracji guzów, celowanego podawania leków. Istotnym przełomem było wprowadzenie radiografii cyfrowej, tj. zastosowania w pełni cyfrowej linii diagnostycznej (obejmującej akwizycję obrazu, jego przetwarzanie i archiwizację, ang. ).

Radiologie is het medisch specialisme dat zich bezig houdt met het opzoeken van de aard en de plaats van een ziekte, letsel of aandoening door middel van stralen of golven. De meest gebruikte stralen zijn de röntgenstralen of X-stralen (röntgenfoto's, CT-scan), maar tegenwoordig wordt ook meer en meer gebruikgemaakt van geluidsgolven (echografie) en magnetische velden (NMR, MR of MRI (-scan))
