QUIET

QUIET is an astronomy experiment to study the polarization of the cosmic microwave background radiation. QUIET stands for Q/U Imaging ExperimenT. The Q/U in the name refers to the ability of the telescope to measure the Q and U Stokes parameters simultaneously. QUIET is located at an elevation of 5,080 metres (16,700 feet) at Llano de Chajnantor Observatory in the Chilean Andes. It began observing in late 2008 and finished observing in December 2010.

Stilte

Stilte is de ervaring van geen enkel geluid, of de ervaring van zo weinig geluid dat het als volledig natuurlijk en rustgevend wordt beschouwd. Stilte kan echter ook als beklemmend of bedreigend worden ervaren.

De ervaring van "geen geluid" betekent niet dat er geen geluid aanwezig is. De gehoordrempel van de mens bedraagt 0 decibel. Dit betekent dat er bij de gehoordrempel toch een geluidsdruk kan heersen van 2x10^-5 Pascal. Geluid met een lagere geluidsdruk kan dan nog wel aanwezig zijn, maar wordt dan niet niet door mensen gehoord.
