In architecture or structural engineering or building, a purlin (or purline) is a horizontal structural member in a roof. Purlins support the loads from the roof deck or sheathing and are supported by the principal rafters and/or the building walls, steel beams etc. The use of purlins, as opposed to closely spaced rafters, is common in pre-engineered metal building systems and both the ancient post-and-beam and newer pole building timber frame construction methodologies.

Eine Pfette, oder Dachpfette ist ein waagerechter Träger in einer Dachkonstruktion. Je nach Lage wird zwischen Firstpfette, Mittelpfette und Fußpfette unterschieden. Pfetten liegen in der Regel parallel zu First und Traufe eines Daches.

Gording - jedna z lin służąca do sprzątania żagla rejowego (dociągania go do rei z pokładu). Jest przymocowana do dolnego liku (brzegu) żagla, następnie przechodzi przez kilka pierścieni (baranków) i przez blok biegnie na pokład. Przez wybranie gordingów, po uprzednim zluzowaniu szotów obciągających żagiel do dołu i wybraniu gejtaw, żagiel zostaje sprzątnięty (podobnie jak żaluzja okienna). Dla ostatecznego zwinięcia żagla trzeba wejść na reję, porządnie ułożyć fałdy płótna i przywiązać do rei.
