Punk rock is an anti-establishment rock music genre and movement that emerged in the mid-1970s. Preceded by a variety of protopunk music of the 1960s and early 1970s, punk rock developed between 1974 and 1977 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where groups such as the Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash were recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement.

Le punk rock est un genre musical dérivé du rock, apparu au milieu des années 1970, associé au mouvement punk de cette même époque. Précédé par une variété de musique protopunk des années 1960 et du début des années 1970, le punk rock se développe surtout entre 1974 et 1976 aux États-Unis, au Royaume-Uni et en Australie. Des groupes comme les Ramones, les Sex Pistols, et The Clash sont reconnus comme les pionniers d'un nouveau mouvement musical. En 1977, le punk rock essaime un peu partout dans le monde.

Punk , auch Punkrock, Punk-Rock oder Punk Rock, ist eine Musikrichtung der Rockmusik, die Mitte der 1970er Jahre in New York und London im Zusammenhang mit der Subkultur des Punk entstanden ist und sich später selber zu einem Obergenre entwickelte und auch durch die Popularität Subkulturen entwickelte. Die dazugehörige Subkultur ist durch die Ablehnung so genannter „bürgerlicher Werte“ und staatlicher Richtlinien und das möglichst krasse Auflehnen dagegen bestimmt. Unter den ersten Bands, die sich selbst als Punks bezeichneten sind unter anderem die Sex Pistols und die Ramones. Der typische und oft auf Punk-Konzerten zu beobachtende Tanz zu dieser Musik wird als Pogo bezeichnet.
