Psychology is the study of the mind, occurring partly via the study of behavior. Grounded in scientific method, psychology has the immediate goal of understanding individuals and groups by both establishing general principles and researching specific cases, and for many it ultimately aims to benefit society. In this field, a professional or researcher is called a psychologist, and can be classified as a social scientist, behavioral scientist, or cognitive scientist. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the physiological and neurobiological processes that underlie certain cognitive functions and behaviors.

Psychologie ist eine empirische Wissenschaft. Sie beschreibt und erklärt das Erleben und Verhalten des Menschen, seine Entwicklung im Laufe des Lebens und alle dafür maßgeblichen inneren und äußeren Ursachen und Bedingungen.

Psykologi är läran om människans beteende, tankar, känslor och samspel med andra människor. En psykologs arbete kan röra sig inom vitt skilda områden, från forskning och undervisning till rådgivning och psykoterapi. Det kan röra sig om forskning kring områden som neuropsykologi, mänskligt beteende, personlighetsutveckling eller artificiell intelligens. Det kan röra sig om rådgivning för företag eller regeringar om personalfrågor, sociala arbetsplatsfrågor, produktdesign, marknadsföring, personlig rådgivning eller terapi.

Psychologia (od psyche = dusza, i logos = słowo, myśl, rozumowanie) jest nauką empiryczną, zajmującą się badaniem mechanizmów i praw rządzących zjawiskami psychicznymi oraz zachowaniami człowieka. Psychologia bada również wpływ zjawisk psychicznych na interakcje międzyludzkie oraz interakcję z otoczeniem. W zasadzie psychologia dotyczy ludzi, ale mówi się o psychologii zwierząt (czyli zoopsychologii), chociaż zachowaniem się zwierząt zajmuje się także dziedzina biologii - etologia. Nauki z których czerpie psychologia to głównie socjologia, antropologia, filozofia i biologia, ale dzięki wypracowaniu własnych metod eksperymentalnych psychologia jest nauką samodzielną. Psychologia zaliczana jest do nauk społecznych, także do nauk humanistycznych. Ostatnio jest także zaliczana do nauk behawioralnych (nauk o zachowaniu) razem z socjologią, etologią, antropologią kulturową, kryminologią, niektórymi działami medycyny (psychiatrią, medycyną behawioralną).
