Psychedelic rock is a style of rock music that attempts to replicate the mind-altering experiences of hallucinogenic drugs. by using lyrics that describe dreams and refer to drug use using bizarre sounds created by altering the instruments and vocals with electronic effects such as heavy distortion, tape-loops echos and delays, phase shifting, or by playing taped sounds backwards.

Le rock psychédélique est un genre musical apparu au milieu des années 1960, inspiré par l'usage de drogues hallucinogènes et notamment du LSD (acid rock). Ce genre est caractérisé par une construction rythmique peu complexe et hypnotique, des mélodies répétitives et pénétrantes, des solos instrumentaux longs et tortueux, modelés d'effets sonores tels que la wah-wah et la distorsion, le tout dans des morceaux généralement assez longs. Ce concept s'est propagé à des degrés divers dans plusieurs styles musicaux dans le rock mais aussi dans d'autres milieux comme la musique soul. Il forme avec la pop psychédélique l'une des deux branches musicales majeures du psychédélisme.

Psychedelic Rock ist eine Spielart der Rockmusik. Sie wurde 1965 in den USA geprägt, setzte sich als bedeutender Bestandteil der westlichen Popkultur durch und dauerte bis 1969 an. Als wesentliche Gemeinsamkeit der beteiligten Bands lässt sich die Verwendung ungewöhnlicher und neuartiger Klänge sowie der bisweilen experimentelle Umgang mit Songstrukturen feststellen, die vormals einfacher gehalten waren.

Rock psychodeliczny (rock psychedeliczny) – gatunek muzyczny powstały w połowie lat sześćdziesiątych, równocześnie po obu stronach Atlantyku, związany z ruchem hippisowskim. Gatunek wywodził się z pierwotnego rock-and-rolla. Sam termin psychedeliczny oznacza odmienny stan świadomości, charakteryzujący się zwiększoną wrażliwością zmysłów na bodźce przyjemne. W istocie, w przypadku słuchaczy i zwykle twórców tej muzyki, stan ten wywołany był zażywaniem substancji psychotropowych jak np. marihuana, haszysz, LSD-25. Muzyka zaś starała się nadążyć za potrzebami.

Lo psychedelic rock (rock psichedelico, talvolta anche noto come acid rock) è un genere musicale derivato dal rock e sviluppatosi contemporaneamente negli Stati Uniti e nel Regno Unito fra gli anni '60 e '70. Si ispira alle esperienze di alterazione della coscienza derivanti dall'uso di droghe come cannabis, psilocibina, mescalina, e soprattutto LSD.
