There are two important versions of Psyché which are often mixed up. The first is the Tragédie et ballet of 1671, composed by Molière and versified in collaboration with Pierre Corneille and Philippe Quinault with musical intermèdes by Jean-Baptiste Lully. The second is the opera of 1678, adapted from Molière's original play by Jean-Baptiste Lully and Thomas Corneille.

In psychoanalysis, the psyche refers to the forces in an individual that influence thought, behavior and personality. The word was borrowed from ancient Greek, which referred concept of the self, encompassing the modern ideas of soul, self, and mind. The Greeks believed that the soul or "psyche" was responsible for behaviour.

Psyché est la sixième tragédie lyrique de Jean-Baptiste Lully, représentée pour la première fois le 19 avril, 1678 à l'Académie royale de musique à Paris. Elle réincorpore les intermèdes que Lully avait composés pour la tragédie-ballet du même titre, de 1671, de Molière. Le livret, qui lie ces intermèdes tout en représentant une intrigue totalement différente, est de Thomas Corneille.

La psyché, en psychologie, désigne l'ensemble des manifestations conscientes et inconscientes de la personnalité d'un individu. C'est à partir de la différenciation entre psyché et conscient que Sigmund Freud ou Carl-Gustav Jung purent étudier la notion d'inconscient.

Psyche (altgr. ψυχή, psychä oder psyché, für ursprüngl. Atem, Atem-Hauch – von ψύχω ich atme) wurde von den Griechen früh schon in umfassenden Sinn verstanden. In der Auffassung von atmen und Atem als Zeichen für Belebtheit bedeutete Psyche zunächst Lebendigkeit und Lebenskraft, so dass sie auch als Lebensprinzip aufgefasst und sogar gleichbedeutend mit Leben verstanden werden konnte. Im Speziellen konnte ψυχή dabei einerseits Gemüt, Herz, Mut und Herzhaftigkeit bedeuten, allgemeiner den "Sitz" der Leidenschaften meinen, weiter das Begehrungsvermögen, die Lust und sogar den Appetit; andererseits konnte ψυχή aber auch für Denkvermögen, Verstand, Klugheit, Geist und Sinn stehen (wie bei der Wendung im Sinn haben). Daneben wurde unter ψυχή in animistischer Tradition auch der abgeschiedene Schatten von Toten oder ihr Geist verstanden und später vor allem mit der religiösen Vorstellung von einer Seele gleichgesetzt.

Psyche - w mitologii greckiej personifikacja duszy ludzkiej; przedstawiana jako młoda dziewczyna ze skrzydłami motyla. Piękność Psyche wzbudziła zazdrość Afrodyty, która nakazała Erosowi, by rozkochał dziewczynę w najbrzydszym z mężczyzn. Eros zakochał się jednak sam w Psyche i odwiedzał ją co noc pod osłoną ciemności, uprzedzając, że straci go na zawsze, jeżeli będzie chciała zobaczyć jak wygląda. Ulegając namowom swych zazdrosnych sióstr, Psyche zapaliła pewnej nocy kaganek, ale kropla rozgrzanej oliwy zbudziła Erosa, który zagniewany jej nieposłuszeństwem odleciał. Zrozpaczona Psyche rozpoczęła wędrówki po świątyniach w poszukiwaniu ukochanego. Trafiła wreszcie do Afrodyty, która przyjęła ją do wykonywania najcięższych prac i posług. Swą pracowitością, łagodnością i urodą przełamała wreszcie niechęć bogini, obdarzona została przez Zeusa nieśmiertelnością, sprowadzona na Olimp i zaślubiona Erosowi. Najbardziej znana wersja legendy o Erosie i Psyche pochodzi z Metamorfoz Apulejusza.

16 Psyche (in italiano 16 Psiche) è uno dei più grandi asteroidi della Fascia principale, misurando circa 250 chilometri di diametro.Psyche fu scoperto il 17 marzo 1852 da Annibale De Gasparis dall'Osservatorio Astronomico di Capodimonte a Napoli. Fu battezzato così in onore di Psiche, dea della mitologia romana.L'analisi dello spettro elettromagnetico indica una composizione praticamente pura di ferro e nichel. Si suppone che Psyche e gli altri asteroidi di tipo M provengano dal nucleo metallico di un grande planetesimo differenziato simile a 4 Vesta.

La psiche è un termine con cui tradizionalmente si usa individuare l'insieme di quelle funzioni cerebrali, emotive, affettive e relazionali dell'individuo, che esulano dalla sua dimensione corporea e materiale. Si intende cioè riferirsi, con la parola psiche, a una astrazione concettuale che include al suo interno componenti diverse, quali facoltà conoscitive, intellettive e razionali, quali ad es. la coscienza, ma anche componenti irrazionali, ovvero l'anima o l'inconscio.
