propoxyphene

Dextropropoxyphene is an analgesic in the opioid category. It is used to treat mild to moderate pain and as an antitussive. It can be used to ease pain before, during and after an operation. It is often combined with paracetamol (Acetaminophen) in the preparation co-proxamol, however, there is no evidence that this combination is any more effective than paracetamol alone. (Darvocet in the US and Capadex or Di-Gesic in Australia). It is manufactured and marketed by Eli Lilly and Company.
