For the television series, see Profit (TV series) Profit generally is the making of gain in business activity for the benefit of the owners of the business. The word comes from Latin meaning "to make progress", is defined in two different ways, one for economics and one for accounting.Pure economic profit is the increase in wealth that an investor has from making an investment, taking into consideration all costs associated with that investment including the opportunity cost of capital. Accounting profit is the difference between retail sales price and the costs of acquisition (whether by harvest, extraction, manufacture, or purchase). A key difficulty in measuring either definition of profit is in defining costs. Accounting profit may be positive even in competitive equilibrium when pure economic profits are zero.

Profit (von lat. profectus „Fortgang, Zunahme, Vorteil“) ist der auf dem Markt realisierte, in Geld ausgedrückte Mehrwert, der nach den Theorien von Karl Marx Ziel des kapitalistischen Produktionsprozesses ist. Bürgerliche Theorien gehen zwar in der Regel ebenfalls davon aus, dass Unternehmen Gewinnmaximierung betreiben, doch bei Marx prägt dieser Sachverhalt die gesamte kapitalistische Gesellschaft, während er aus bürgerlicher Sicht nur eine Erscheinung neben anderen (Nutzenmaximierung der Konsumenten usw.) ist.

Zysk - w rachunkowości jest to dodatni wynik finansowy przedsiębiorstwa lub określonej inwestycji albo pożyczki. Jego przeciwieństwem jest strata. Zysk jest wartością ekstensywną i nie określa bezpośrednio efektywności gospodarowania lub inwestowania. Wartością określającą efektywność gospodarowania i inwestowania jest rentowność.

Winst is het positieve verschil tussen opbrengst en kosten. Is het verschil negatief, dan is er sprake van verlies. Doorgaans wordt de winst over een bepaalde periode gerapporteerd, bijvoorbeeld de jaarwinst of de kwartaalwinst.
