Pride is an inwardly directed emotion that carries two common meanings. With a negative connotation, pride refers to an inflated sense of one's personal status or accomplishments, often used synonymously with hubris. With a positive connotation, pride refers to a satisfied sense of attachment toward one's own or another's choices and actions, or toward a whole group of people, and is a product of praise, independent self-reflection, or a fulfilled feeling of belonging. Philosophers and social psychologists have noted that pride is a complex secondary emotion which requires the development of a sense of self and the mastery of relevant conceptual distinctions (e.g., that pride is distinct from happiness and joy) through language-based interaction with others. Some social psychologists identify it as linked to a signal of high social status. In contrast pride could also be defined as a disagreement with the truth. One definition of pride in the first sense comes from St. Augustine: "the love of one's own excellence". In this sense, the opposite of pride is either humility or guilt; the latter in particular being a sense of one's own failure in contrast to Augustine's notion of excellence.

Pride FC (Pride Fighting Championships) war ein Veranstalter von MMA-Wettkämpfen aus Japan, der zum japanischen Vermarktungsunternehmen Dream Stage Entertainment (DSE) gehörte und im April 2007 von Zuffa, dem Besitzer von Ultimate Fighting Championship aufgekauft wurde.

Le Pride Fighting Championships ou Pride FC est une organisation professionnelle de combat libre, très populaire au Japon. Elle a été la première organisation mondiale de MMA, que ce soit en termes de médiatisation, de show, de bourse et de qualité des combats proposés. Sa première compétition s'est déroulé au Tokyo Dome le 11 octobre 1997. Depuis le Pride a organisé plus de soixante évènements qui ont été diffusés dans près de quarante pays. Le Pride détient le record de spectateur pour une rencontre de sports de combat, avec 71.000 sièges payants lors de la soirée Shockwave/Dynamite en août 2002. Il détient aussi le record d'audience avec 67.450 téléspectateurs pour le PRIDE Final Conflict 2003.

I antikens Grekland straffade gudinnan Nemesis sådana självhävdande handlingar som gick över gränsen för det rätta måttet, det passande. Alla de stora abrahamistiska religionerna, det vill säga judendom, kristendom och islam, ser högmodet som ett moraliskt tillkortakommande, en synd mot gudomliga förväntningar på människan. Inom romersk-katolska kyrkan räknas högmod som en av de sju dödssynderna.

PRIDE eller PRIDE Fighting Championships i Japan var världens största mixed martial arts-organisation. Den första Pride-galan hölls i Tokyo Dome den 11 mars 1997. Galan Pride Final Elimination 2003 hade 65 000 åskådare. I en gala samproducerad med K-1, Shockwave/Dynamite, i augusti 2002 hade man 90 000 åskådare.

Pride Fighting Championships - była japońska federacja sztuk walki w formule MMA (Mixed Martial Arts - Mieszane Sztuki Walki). Walka toczyła się na ringu o wymiarach 7 na 7 metrów. Turnieje Pride odbywały się w Japonii, a w roku 2006 dwa odbyły się w USA. Pride przez wiele lat swojego istnienia uważana była za federację skupiającą najlepszych fighterów świata. Największą konkurencję dla zawodów MMA federacji Pride stanowiła amerykańska federacja UFC, której walki odbywają się w tzw. oktagonie czyli ośmiokątnej klatce.
