Prussia (; Latin: Borussia, Prutenia; ; ; ; Old Prussian: Prūsa) was, most recently, a historic state originating in Brandenburg, an area that for centuries had substantial influence on German and European history. The last capital of Prussia was Berlin.Prussia attained its greatest importance in the 18th and 19th centuries. During the 18th century, it became a great European power under the reign of Frederick II of Prussia (1740–86). During the 19th century, Prime Minister Otto von Bismarck pursued a policy of uniting the German principalities into a "Lesser Germany" that would exclude the Austrian Empire. This led to the unification of Germany in 1871, with Prussia forming the core of the German Empire.

Le Preussen était un navire voilier à cinq-mâts carré marchand allemand. Il fut construit en 1902 à Geestemünde par les chantiers J. C. Tecklenberg pour la compagnie de transport maritime Hambourgaise F. Laeisz ( connu aussi sous le nom de Flying P-Liner ) et utilisé pour le transport du nitrate.

Der Name Preußen erfuhr durch die Krönung des Kurfürsten Friedrich III. von Brandenburg zum König in Preußen (als Friedrich I.) eine grundlegende Bedeutungsänderung: Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt war Preußen (latinisiert zu Prussia oder Prutenia) das Gebiet des ehemaligen Deutschordensstaates, seit 1466 geteilt in das der polnischen Krone unterstehende Königliche Preußen und das 1535 durch Säkularisierung des Ordensstaates entstandene Herzogtum Preußen, das seit 1618 in Personalunion den Kurfürsten von Brandenburg unterstand.

Il nome Prussia (in tedesco Preußen: in latino Borussia, Prussia oppure Prutenia: in polacco Prusy: in russo Prussija) si riferisce in origine al territorio occupato dall'antica tribù baltica dei Pruzzi o Prussiani corrispondente all'attuale Lituania meridionale, all'enclave russa della regione russa di Kaliningrad (Oblast' di Kaliningrad) e alla Polonia nord orientale; in seguito il nome Prussia identificò una delle regioni dell'Ordine Teutonico e dal XVI secolo un ducato degli Hohenzollern, il feudo polacco-lituano, chiamato anche Prussia Ducale e unito dal 1618 alla marca del Brandeburgo.
