Poultry is the category of domesticated birds kept for meat, eggs, and feathers. These most typically are members of the order Galliformes (which includes chickens and turkeys) and the family Anatidae (in order Anseriformes), commonly known as "waterfowl" (e.g. domestic ducks and domestic geese). Poultry also include other meat birds such as pigeons or doves or game birds like pheasants. The term also refers to the flesh of such birds.

Geflügel ist der Oberbegriff für alle Vogelarten, die als Nutztiere gezüchtet und gehalten werden sowie für Wildvögel, die gezielt zum Verzehr gejagt werden. Die meisten der heute in Europa gegessenen Geflügelarten gehören zu den Hühnervögeln oder den Gänsevögeln. Einige Arten werden als Haustiere gehalten (Hausgeflügel) und stellen eine wichtige Nahrungsquelle dar. Nicht gegessen wird Ziergeflügel.

家禽（かきん）とは、その肉・卵・羽毛などを利用するために飼育する鳥の総称。または野生の鳥を人間の生活に役立てるために品種改良したものを飼育しているものをいう。一般的に肉、卵用にニワトリ、ウズラ、シチメンチョウ、アヒル、ガチョウ、愛玩用にオナガドリ、チャボなどがある。またハトは、その帰巣性を利用してレース鳩や伝書鳩としても用いられる。最近はダチョウを家禽として飼育する例もある。
