Portmanteau
A portmanteau (; plural portmanteaux or portmanteaus) or portmanteau word is a combination of two (or more) words or morphemes into one new word. A portmanteau word typically combines both sounds and meanings, as in smog, coined by blending smoke and fog. More generally, it may refer to any term or phrase that combines two or more meanings. In linguistics, a portmanteau is defined as a single morph which represents two or more morphemes.

Kofferwort
Ein Kofferwort ist ein Kunstwort, das aus mindestens zwei Wortsegmenten besteht, die zu einem inhaltlich neuen Begriff verschmolzen sind. Geläufige Synonyme sind: Portmanteau-Wort, Blend, Wortkreuzung und mot-valise. Der Vorgang, durch den Kofferwörter entstehen, wird in der Wortbildungsmorphologie als Amalgamierung oder Kontamination bezeichnet.

Mot-valise
Un mot-valise est un néologisme formé par la fusion d'au moins deux autres mots existant dans la langue. Il peut s'agir d'une haplologie : une même syllabe constitue à la fois la fin d'un mot et le début d'un autre, et le procédé consiste alors à les accoler sans répéter cette partie commune, d'autres fois, un seul des mots se voit amuï.

Teleskopord
Teleskopord är ord som bildats genom att två ord skjutits ihop till ett, samtidigt som delar tagits bort. Teleskopord är en etablerad lingvistisk term, och motsvaras av engelskans portmanteau. Portmanteau myntades av Lewis Carroll. Ordet har lånat sitt namn av det franska ordet för en äldre resväska gjord i två delar sammanhållna av gångjärn. Ordet portmanteau är självt ett portmanteauord som är en sammanslagning av de franska orden för bära och kappa. Fenomenet kallas på engelska även blend, alltså blandning.

Kontaminacja (jezykoznawstwo)
Kontaminacja (portmanteau) – w językoznawstwie, zjawisko etymologiczne, oznaczające połączenie dwóch lub więcej słów, zazwyczaj o pokrewnym znaczeniu, w jedno. Znaczenie portmanteau utworzył Lewis Carroll w książce Po drugiej stronie lustra.
Przykładem kontaminacji jest smog, połączenie dwóch angielskich wyrazów smoke (dym) oraz fog (mgła). Innym przykładem jest słowo "pstrokaty", połączenie słów "pstry" i "srokaty". Lewis Carroll używał takich zbitek wyrazowych w swoich wierszach, aby osiągnąć efekt komiczny, szczególnie w Jabberwocky. James Joyce szeroko korzystał z nich w Finnegans Wake. Wiele znaków firmowych, znaków towarowych, oraz nazw kampanii, jak również nazwy samych przedsiębiorstw i organizacji, to zbitki wyrazowe. Na przykład Wikipedia to kontaminacja utworzona ze słów wiki i encyklopedia.
