Statesman (dialogue)
The Statesman, or Politikos in
Greek and Politicus in
Latin, is a four part dialogue contained within the work of
Plato. The text is a dialogue between
Socrates and his student Theodorus, another student named Socrates (referred to as Young Socrates), and an unknown philosopher expounding the ideas of the
statesman. This unknown philosopher from
Elea is referred to in the text as the "visitor". The text is a continuation of the dialogue preceding it, named
Sophist , which is a dialogue between
Socrates,
Theaetetus and the visitor.

Le Politique
Politique
Le mot politique vient du grec politikè (« science des affaires de la
Cité »). Étymologiquement, la politique est donc synonyme d'organisation du pouvoir dans la
Cité. La Cité visée est celle de l'Antiquité grecque. Aujourd'hui appelé Cité-État du fait de la similitude de leur organisation avec celle de nos États modernes (pouvoir centralisé, institutions, diplomatie...) Mais le lien entre politique et État n'est pas si évident, cette acception est relativement récente.

Politicus
Onder een politicus wordt een persoon verstaan die een ambt of functie in de
politiek vervult. Een vrouwelijke politicus wordt politica genoemd.Niet elk ambt of functie wordt hierbij als politieke functie gezien, voorwaarde is dat de persoon beslissingen kan nemen of beïnvloeden.In
democratieën wordt de term meestal gehanteerd voor diegenen die een gekozen functie hebben of nastreven en de door hen gekozen dagelijkse bestuurders. De politicus wordt in het algemeen gekozen als lid van een
politieke partij. De politicus dient dan de standpunten van de politieke partij uit te dragen, en de verwezenlijking van de doelstellingen van de partij na te streven. Hiernaast hebben de politici soms binnen de partij de taak om mede de inhoud van het partijprogramma te bepalen. Behalve politici die vanuit een politieke partij gekozen worden, zijn er ook partijloze politici. In niet-democratische landen kan de functie verkregen zijn door een staatsgreep, verkiezingsfraude, verovering, of erfopvolging.
