police

Police are agents or agencies empowered to enforce the law and to effect public and social order through the legitimate use of force. The term is most commonly associated with police departments of a state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. The word comes via French from the Latin politia (“civil administration”), which itself derives from the Ancient Greek πόλις, for polis ("city").

Police was Charlie Chaplin's 14th released film from Essanay released in 1916. It was made at the Majestic Studio in Los Angeles. Charlie playing an ex-convict finds life on the outside not to his liking and leads him to breaking into a home with another thief (Wesley Ruggles).  Edna Purviance plays the girl living in the home who tries to change him.

Police [] (deutsch: Pölitz) ist eine Stadt im Nordwesten Polens in der Woiwodschaft Westpommern. Police hat etwa 35.000 Einwohner und ist Sitz des Kreis Police. Die Stadt liegt an der Oder, etwa 15 km nördlich von  Stettin, an der östlichen Grenze der Ueckermünder Heide. Police besitzt eine der größten Chemieanlagen Polens.

Die Polizei ist ein Exekutivorgan eines Staates. Sie bedient sich einem Polizeirecht und hat in den meisten Staaten die Aufgaben, die öffentliche Sicherheit und Ordnung zu gewährleisten, den Verkehr zu regeln bzw. zu überwachen und als Strafverfolgungsbehörde strafbare und ordnungswidrige Handlungen zu erforschen. In der erstgenannten Funktion kommt ihr dabei oft die Rolle einer Notfallhilfe mit eigenem Notruf zu. Eine weitere Aufgabe in allen Staaten der Welt ist die Gefahrenabwehr im Bereich der inneren Sicherheit, das heißt die Verhütung oder Unterbindung von Taten, die sowohl straf-/bußgeldbewehrt sind als auch die Taten, die einem gesetzlichen Verbot zuwiderhandeln.

Do jej głównych zadań należy pilnowanie przestrzegania prawa i ściganie przestępców, jak również zapewnienie ochrony i pomocy w sytuacjach kryzysowych zarówno wobec ludzi jak i mienia. Jeżeli jest to konieczne, policja nadzoruje na poziomie operacyjnym także wszelkie służby ratownicze.

Il termine polizia è in genere usato ad indicare il complesso delle attività istituzionali di gestione delle comunità umane organizzate, derivando il nome e l'origine storica del concetto dallo sviluppo della polis della Grecia antica. In senso storico si tratta dunque di un concetto di molto prossimo a quello di governo, inteso come potere esecutivo, gestore dell'autorità conferitagli dalla comunità di riferimento al fine dell'amministrazione della cosa pubblica e spesso in funzione del bene comune. Ed è concetto affine anche a quello della pubblica sicurezza, uno degli elementi costituzionali del contratto sociale ed una delle tematiche che più direttamente legano il concetto originario di polizia con quello moderno.
