polar region

Earth's polar regions are the areas of the globe surrounding the poles also known as frigid zones. The North Pole and South Pole being the centers, these regions are dominated by the polar ice caps, resting respectively on the Arctic Ocean and the continent of Antarctica. Polar sea ice is currently diminishing, possibly as a result of anthropogenic global warming.

Les régions polaires de la Terre sont les zones du globe entourant les pôles et au dela des deux cercles polaires que sont le cercle Arctique dans l'hémisphère nord et le cercle Antarctique dans l'hémisphère sud. Ces régions étant centrées sur le pôle Nord et le pôle Sud, elles sont recouvertes par les calottes glacières, situées respectivement sur l'Océan Arctique et le continent Antarctique.

Unter den Polargebieten versteht man die Regionen der Erde, die sich innerhalb der einzelnen Polarkreise befinden. Sie werden auch als das 'ewige Eis' bezeichnet'. Der nördliche Polarkreis umfasst die Arktis, in deren Zentrum das Nordpolarmeer liegt. Der südliche Polarkreis umfasst die Antarktis, die hauptsächlich den Kontinent Antarktika mit einschließt.

Земные полярные зоны — это территории, располагающиеся южнее (для Антарктики) или севернее (для Арктики) полярных кругов. Для них характерны полярный климат, низкие температуры, сильное оледенение и непостоянство смены дня и ночи (24-часовой полярный день летом и полярная ночь зимой). Северный полюс и Южный полюс — центры этих регионов, располагающиеся соответственно на арктической полярной шапке и континентальных льдах Антарктиды.

Jordens polarregioner är de områden som täcker de geografiska polerna, norr om Norra polcirkeln eller söder om Södra polcirkeln. Dessa områden karaktäriseras av polarklimat, extremt kalla temperaturer, svår glaciärisering och extrema variationer i dagsljus med 24 timmar dagsljus om sommaren (midnattssol) och permanent mörker vid midvinter. Nordpolen och Sydpolen domineras av polaristäcken som vilar på oceanen (Nordpolen) och på en kontinent (Antarktis).
