Polar orbit
A polar orbit is an orbit in which a satellite passes above or nearly above both poles of the body being orbited (usually a planet such as the Earth, but possibly another body such as the Sun) on each revolution. It therefore has an inclination of (or very close to) 90 degrees to the equator. Except in the special case of a polar geosynchronous orbit, a satellite in a polar orbit will pass over the equator at a different longitude on each of its orbits.

Orbite polaire
Un satellite en orbite polaire survole les pôles d'une planète (ou d'un autre corps céleste) à chaque révolution. Il tourne autour d'un astre avec une inclinaison élevée – proche de 90 degrés – ce qui le rend intéressant pour l'observation de la Terre. Orbita polare
Un'orbita polare è un'orbita che permette al satellite che la percorre di passare sopra entrambi i poli del corpo celeste su cui ruota (ad esempio un pianeta). Quindi l'orbita polare ha un'inclinazione molto vicina ai 90° rispetto l'equatore.
Una volta fissato il piano orbitale, perpendicolare alla rotazione del corpo centrale, il satellite passerà sopra il pianeta con diverse longitudini, quindi passerà sopra ogni regione. Per questa caratteristica, l'orbita polare è spesso utilizzata per missioni di mappatura e osservazione terrestre, ma anche per satelliti meteo.

Полярна орбита
Полярна орбита е орбита, при която спътникът минава над двата полюса на централното тяло. Съответно инклинацията на орбитата е почти 90 градуса. Тъй като равнината на орбитата остава неподвижна спрямо планетата, всяко преминаване над екватора става при различна дължина, което позволява плътно покритие на цялата повърхност на планетата.
Изкуствените спътници, които се намират в полярна орбита, често се използват за метеорологични и екологични наблюдения, както и при картографирането на отдалечени планети. В такива случаи обикновено се използват ниски орбити.
