Point guard (PG), also called the one, play maker or "the ball-handler," is one of the standard positions in a regulation basketball game and is commonly abbreviated "PG." A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position – essentially, he is expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right players at the right time. Above all, the point guard must totally understand and accept his or her coach's game plan; in this way, the position can be compared to a quarterback in American football.

Point Guard [] (engl., zu deutsch Aufbauspieler, wörtlich richtungsweisender Verteidiger) ist eine Positionsbezeichnung in der Sportart Basketball. Er wird auch Playmaker (Spielmacher) genannt und ist üblicherweise der kleinste Spieler einer Basketballmannschaft (zwischen 1,80 und 1,90 Meter). In der Regel ist er sehr schnell und wendig und besitzt ausgezeichnetes Ballhandling. Ebenso ist seine Spielübersicht von großer Bedeutung, denn der Point Guard entscheidet darüber, wann welcher Spielzug gestartet wird. Er muss sich daher auch durch kluge Entscheidungen auszeichnen. Der Point Guard ist eine Art „verlängerter Arm“ des Trainers auf dem Spielfeld.

Au basket-ball, le meneur, ou poste 1, (en anglais : Point guard) est le joueur qui dirige le jeu en attaque. C'est lui qui monte la balle à travers le terrain et annonce les différentes tactiques à mettre en place. Il sert de relai de l'entraîneur sur le terrain. Les qualités requises pour jouer à ce poste sont donc une bonne intelligence de jeu et de la lucidité même lorsque l'équipe est menée au score.

Od zawodnika tego wymagane jest wiele asyst, przechwytów i brak strat. Wielu koszykarzy grających na tej pozycji jest też obdarzonych rzutem. Mogą wtedy grać wymiennie jako rozgrywający lub rzucający obrońca, gdzie spełniają rolę strzelca.
