Poetry
Poetry (from the Greek poiesis — — with a broad meaning of a "making", seen also in such terms as "hemopoiesis"; more narrowly, the making of poetry) is a form of literary art which uses the aesthetic qualities of language to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, the prosaic ostensible meaning.

Poesie
Das Wort Poesie (von gr. ποίησις poiesis, „Erschaffung“) bezeichnet erstens einen Textbereich, dessen Produktion traditionell nach den poetischen Gattungen geteilt wird. Nach Aristotelischer Poetik (so das Wort für die Theorie der Poesie) sind dies Drama, Epos und kleinere lyrische Gattungen. Hier wird heute im deutschen seit dem 19. Jahrhundert eher von Literatur und literarischen Gattungen gesprochen. Allenfalls kurze Gedichte behielten (etwa mit dem Poesiealbum) im Deutschen das Wort.

Poésie
La poésie est un genre littéraire très ancien aux formes variées, écrites aussi bien en vers qu’en prose et dans lequel l’importance dominante est accordée à la , c’est à dire au signifiant. La poésie est un art du langage qui fait une utilisation maximale des ressources de la langue : le travail sur la forme démultiplie la puissance de la signification.

Poesi är konsten att skriva poem; litterära verk avsedda att läsas eller reciteras. Poesi kallas också skaldekonst, lyrik, dikt och vers eller ganska föråldrat kväde.

Poezja
Poezja (z gr. poiesis) - wieloznaczny termin stanowiący przede wszystkim określenie dzieł literackich nie napisanych prozą lub synonim liryki.
Najdawniejsze, nie używane już znaczenie terminu "poezja", to ogół wszystkich dzieł literatury pięknej. Utożsamienie wszystkich dzieł literatury pięknej z poezją wynikało z tego, że większość utworów literackich pisana była mową wiązaną, a dzieła pisane prozą cenione były niżej.
W drugim znaczeniu terminu "poezja", żywym do dziś, poezja jest to mowa wiązana, tj. wszystkie utwory pisane wierszem. W tym znaczeniu termin "poezja" jest przeciwieństwem terminu "proza".
