Podcast
A podcast is a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of audio files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The word is a neologism derived from "broadcast" and "pod" from the success of the iPod, as podcasts are often listened to on portable media players.

Podcasting bezeichnet das Produzieren und Anbieten von abonnierbaren Mediendateien (Audio oder Video) über das Internet. Das Kofferwort setzt sich aus den beiden englischen Wörtern iPod und Broadcasting zusammen. Ein einzelner Podcast (deutsch: ein Hörstück, genauer Hördatei oder Bewegtbilddatei) ist somit eine Serie von Medienbeiträgen (Episoden), die über einen Feed (meistens RSS) automatisch bezogen werden können.

Poddradio
Poddsändning eller poddradio (engelska: podcast eller podcasting) är en metod att publicera (och för lyssnaren att prenumerera på) ljudfiler eller film via internet. Ordet "podcasting" är en sammanslagning av "pod" (ordagrant "kapsel" men syftande på media-spelaren iPod) och engelskans "broadcast" (sändning). Ännu finns ingen helt adekvat svensk term för företeelsen; "poddsändning" är ett av de förslag som lagts fram, men "poddradio", som bland annat används av Sveriges Radio, används i mycket högre grad. Ordet "podd-tv" har fått visst genomslag för podd-sändning av videomaterial.

Podcasting, podcast, spolszczone: podkasting, podkast to forma internetowej publikacji dźwiękowej lub filmowej, najczęściej w postaci regularnych odcinków, z zastosowaniem technologii RSS.
Nazwa wzięła się z połączenia słów iPod - odtwarzacz muzyczny firmy Apple i broadcast (z ang. transmisja, przekaz) . Początki podkastingu sięgają roku 2000. Wówczas to pojawił się pierwszy szkic dotyczący użycia technologii RSS do publikowania treści audio i wideo. Gwałtowny wzrost zainteresowania podkastingiem nastąpił na przełomie lat 2004 i 2005. O ile jeszcze pod koniec września 2004 liczba wyników zwracanych przez wyszukiwarkę Google oscylowała w granicach 500, to rok później było to ponad sto milionów. Google Trends datuje pierwsze zapytania odnośnie słowa podcast na koniec września 2004.
