plasmide

A plasmid is a DNA molecule separate from the chromosomal DNA and capable of autonomous replication. It is typically circular and double-stranded. It usually occurs in bacteria, sometimes in eukaryotic organisms (e.g., the 2-micrometre-ring in Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Size of plasmids varies from 1 to over 400 kilobase pairs (kbp). There may be one copy, for large plasmids, to hundreds of copies of the same plasmid in a single cell, or even thousands of copies, for certain artificial plasmids selected for high copy number (such as the pUC series of plasmids). Plasmids can be part of the mobilome, since they are often associated with conjugation, a mechanism of horizontal gene transfer.

Un plasmide désigne en microbiologie ou en biologie moléculaire une molécule d'ADN distincte de l'ADN chromosomique, capable de réplication autonome. Le terme plasmide fut introduit par le biologiste moléculaire américain Joshua Lederberg en 1952.

Plazmid - cząsteczka DNA występująca w komórce poza chromosomem i zdolna do autonomicznej (niezależnej) replikacji. Plazmidy występują przede wszystkim u prokariotów, ale znane są także nieliczne plazmidy występujące u eukariotów. Zazwyczaj plazmidy nie niosą genów metabolizmu podstawowego, a więc nie są komórce niezbędne do przeżycia. Mogą jednak kodować produkty potrzebne w pewnych specyficznych warunkach, na przykład geny oporności na antybiotyki lub umożliwiające rozkład i asymilację różnych związków odżywczych. Plazmidy w drodze koniugacji mogą być przekazywane pomiędzy komórkami bakteryjnymi.

I plasmidi sono piccoli filamenti circolari di DNA superavvolto a doppia elica, presenti nel citoplasma e distinguibili dal cromosoma batterico per le loro dimensioni ridotte. Il materiale genetico che li contraddistingue permette all'organismo ospite di svolgere varie funzioni non essenziali. I plasmidi sono capaci di spostarsi tra le cellule (anche non uguali, ma filogeneticamente affini) influendo sulla variabilità genetica.
