musical instrument played by means of a
keyboard. It produces sound by striking steel strings with
felt hammers that immediately rebound allowing the string to continue vibrating at its resonance frequency. These vibrations are transmitted through the
bridges to the
soundboard, which amplifies them.

Le piano est un
instrument de musique polyphonique à
clavier de la
famille des cordes frappées. Le
son du piano est produit par la vibration de ses cordes tendues sur un cadre rigide horizontal (piano à queue) ou vertical (piano droit), placé au-dessus de la table d'harmonie. Elles sont frappées par des marteaux couverts de feutre, actionnés par l'enfoncement des touches du clavier. La vibration des cordes est stoppée par un étouffoir lorsque la touche du clavier est relâchée. Le piano possède le plus souvent un
pédalier de deux ou trois pédales, aussi appelé lyre, permettant d'augmenter son potentiel expressif.

Das Klavier (von
lat. clavis „Taste“ über
frz. clavier [] „Tastatur“) gehört zur Gruppe der
Tasteninstrumente. Den Klang erzeugen eingebaute Hämmer, die auf
Saiten schlagen und wieder zurückprallen. Die Kraftübertragung erfolgt von der Taste über eine spezielle
Mechanik. Kurz bevor der Hammer die Saiten berührt, lösen sich
Dämpfer von den Saiten und verbleiben solange abgehoben, bis die Taste losgelassen wird. Die
Tasten selbst befinden sich hierbei auf einer
Klaviatur (Tastatur) an der Vorderseite des Instruments.

strunowy instrument muzyczny. W fortepianie struny rozpięte na stalowej ramie uderzane są młoteczkami obciągniętymi
filcem. Naciśnięcie klawisza powoduje uderzenie młoteczka w strunę, przenosząc jednocześnie dynamikę uderzenia w klawisz. Natychmiast po pobudzeniu struny młoteczek odbija się od niej i w zależności od siły uderzenia, zatrzymuje się wyżej lub niżej. Pozwala to na szybką repetycję (uderzanie kilka razy tego samego dźwięku w szybkim tempie), w odróżnieniu od
pianina. Po zwolnieniu nacisku na klawisz do struny przyciskany jest na krótką chwilę tłumik wyciszający jej drgania. W ten dość skomplikowany sposób mechanizm fortepianu realizuje podstawową cechę tego instrumentu odróżniającą go od wcześniejszych instrumentów strunowych, klawiszowych, które nie miały możliwości kształtowania dynamiki dźwięku oraz czasu jego trwania.

suono grazie a
corde che vengono percosse per mezzo di martelletti azionati da una
tastiera. Fa parte, quindi, dei
cordofoni a corde percosse.L'origine della parola pianoforte è italiana (
Bartolomeo Cristofori) ed è riferita alla possibilità che lo strumento offre di suonare note a volumi diversi in base al tocco, ovvero alla forza applicata dalle dita del pianista sui tasti. Possibilità negata invece da strumenti precedenti quali il
clavicembalo. Anche mediante l'intervento sui pedali, che azionano particolari meccanismi, l'esecutore può modificare il suono risultante. Chi suona il pianoforte viene chiamato
pianista.
