Philanthropist
A philanthropist is someone who engages in
philanthropy; that is, someone who donates his or her time, money, and/or reputation to
charitable causes. The term may apply to any
volunteer or to anyone who makes a
donation, but the label is most often applied to those who donate large sums of money or who make a major impact through their volunteering, such as a
trustee who manages a philanthropic organization.

Die Philanthropie (neoklassische Wortschöpfung des 18. Jahrhunderts aus
griechisch φίλος, phílos, „Freund“ und άνθρωπος, ánthropos, „Mensch“) bedeutet Menschenfreundlichkeit oder Menschenliebe.Als Philanthropen werden im allgemeinen Menschen bezeichnet, die für andere Menschen Gutes tun oder gar ihr Leben dem Dienst an ihren Mitmenschen widmen, also vorrangig
altruistisch handeln. Einen wie auch immer gearteten darüber hinausgehenden religiösen, politischen oder anderweitig dogmatischen Zusammenhang gibt es nicht. Philanthropen können natürlich aus ihrem Glauben heraus philanthropisch handeln, dennoch ist dies nur eine Möglichkeit, warum jemand Philanthrop ist.
