Perspiration (sweating, transpiration, or diaphoresis) is the production of a fluid consisting primarily of water as well as various dissolved solids (chiefly chlorides), that is excreted by the sweat glands in the skin of mammals. Sweat contains the chemicals or odorants 2-methylphenol (o-cresol) and 4-methylphenol (p-cresol), as well as a small amount of urea. Sweat itself is not the cause of body odor, but rather the bacteria on the skin which feed on the sweat.

Perspiration steht bei für:

• Schwitzen, bei Tieren die Wasserabgabe über die Haut 
• Hautatmung, bei Tieren der Austausch von Sauerstoff und Kohlendioxid über die Haut

Schwitzen – medizinisch auch als Diaphorese (v. griech.  „hindurch tragen“) oder Transpiration bezeichnet – ist die Absonderung von Schweiß auf der Haut, um die Körpertemperatur durch Verdunstungskälte, die beim Verdunsten von Schweiß entsteht, zu senken. Schwitzen dient der Thermoregulation und ist praktisch nur bei Primaten anzutreffen. Übermäßiges Schwitzen wird als Hyperhidrose bezeichnet. Perspiratio insensibilis wird jene Form der Wasserabgabe bezeichnet, die mit freiem Auge für gewöhnlich nicht sichtbar ist.

La sueur est un liquide secrété par les glandes sudoripares lors du phénomène de transpiration qui joue un rôle important pour le contrôle de la température du corps (évacuation de 580 Kcal par litre de sueur évaporée).La sueur en se dégradant génère des mauvaises odeurs.

Svettning, transpiration eller perspiration är en process där en saltig vätska, svett, produceras av svettkörtlar i huden. Svettning förekommer hos däggdjur, och dess funktion är att hålla nere kroppstemperaturen vid hårt arbete eller hög temperatur i omgivningen. Svettning kan även förekomma vid rädsla, nervositet, illamående samt när febern går ner.
