Human resources is the set of individuals who make up the workforce of an organization, business sector or an economy. "Human capital" is sometimes used synonymously with human resources, although human capital typically refers to a more narrow view; i.e., the knowledge the individuals embody and can contribute to an organization. Likewise, other terms sometimes used include "manpower", "talent", "labor" or simply "people".

Personalwesen (auch Personalwirtschaft, Personalmanagement oder engl. Human Resource Management, Abk.: HRM) bezeichnet den Bereich der Betriebswirtschaft, der sich mit dem Produktionsfaktor Arbeit bzw. mit dem Personal auseinandersetzt. Moderne Unternehmen beziehen außer den Themen  Führungsprozess und Geschäftsprozess auch die Interaktionsthematik sowie die Aktion und Emotion des Personals ein.

La gestion des ressources humaines (la GRH) est un ensemble de pratiques ayant pour objectif de mobiliser et développer les ressources humaines pour une plus grande efficacité et efficience, en soutien de la stratégie d'une organisation (association, entreprise, administration publique, etc.). C'est une activité essentiellement fonctionnelle de l'entreprise, de nature transversale (horizontale) par opposition à une activité hiérarchique (verticale).

Human resources (förkortas HR) kallas hanteringen av ett företags mänskliga resurser, det vill säga personaladministration, hur företag och organisationer arbetar operativt och strategiskt med sin personal och organisation. Även beteckningen human resource management (HRM) används.

Zasoby ludzkie (ang. human resources) – pojęcie mające dwojakie znacznie. Pierwsze wywodzi się z nauk społecznych – głównie z ekonomii i oznacza siłę roboczą jako jeden z trzech środków produkcji. Drugie, bardziej powszechne, mieszczące się w zakresie zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem, odnosi się do indywidualnych pracowników oraz działu firmy, który zajmuje się zatrudnianiem, szkoleniem oraz zwalnianiem pracowników (czyli polityką personalną).
