pediculosis

Pediculosis is an infestation of lice -- which are parasitic insects -- on the bodies of humans. The condition is more commonly known as head lice, body lice or pubic lice. Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) infestation is most frequent on children aged 3-10 and their families. Females get head lice more often than males, and in the United States, African-Americans have head lice less often. The reasons for these two facts are not known. Head lice are spread through direct head-to-head contact with an infested person. Body lice are spread through direct contact with the body, clothing or other personal items of a person already carrying lice. Pubic lice are most often spread by intimate contact with an infested person. Head lice occur on the head hair, body lice on the clothing, and pubic lice mainly on the hair near the groin. Human lice do not occur on pets or other animals. Lice do not have wings and cannot jump.

Pediculose é uma doença provocada pela infestação de piolhos. Pode-se encontrar os seguintes tipos de Pediculose em função dos três tipos de piolhos que parasitam o ser humano: (a) Pediculose do Couro Cabeludo: provocada pela presença do Pediculus humanus var capitis e lêndeas presas nos fios de cabelo, atinge preferencialmente crianças em fase escolar; (b) Pediculose do Corpo: que tem como causador o Pediculus humanus var corporis (vulgarmente conhecido como muquirana) e lêndeas que são depositadas nos pêlos e roupas dos indivíduos; (c) Pediculose Pubiana: causada pelo Pthirus pubis (vulgarmente chamado de chato) e lêndeas que são colocadas nos pêlos pubianos.

Педикулёз (от лат. pediculus «вошь») — паразитарное заболевание кожи и её деривата — волос. На человеке может паразитировать головная вошь (Pediculus Humanus Capitis), платяная вошь (Pediculus Humanus Corporis) и лобковая вошь (Phtyrus Pubis). Соответственно этому различают педикулёз головной, платяной и лобковый. Может также возникать смешанный педикулёз, когда присутствует инфестация смешанного типа (напр. одновременная инфестация головной и платяной вши).
