Paranoia [] (adjective: paranoid []) is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs, or beliefs of concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. (e.g. "Everyone is out to get me.") Making false accusations and the general distrust of others also frequently accompany paranoia. For example, an incident most people would view as an accident or coincidence, a paranoid person might believe was intentional. However, just because an individual is paranoid does not necessarily mean his or her suspicions are false, as noted in Catch-22: "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you."

Paranoia (also styled as PARANOIA) is a dystopian science-fiction tabletop role-playing game originally designed and written by Greg Costikyan, Dan Gelber, and Eric Goldberg, and first published in 1984 by West End Games. Since 2004 the game has been published under licence by Mongoose Publishing. The game won the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Rules of 1984 and was inducted into the Origins Awards Hall of Fame in 2007.

Paranoia (griechisch  paránoia, aus parà „neben“ und noûs „Verstand“; wörtlich also „neben dem Verstand“, „verrückt“, „wahnsinnig“) ist im engeren Sinn die Bezeichnung für eine psychische Störung, in deren Mittelpunkt Wahnbildungen stehen. Häufiger taucht der Begriff jedoch in seiner adjektivischen Form paranoid auf (s. Infobox ICD 10), der auf Verfolgungsängste oder Verfolgungswahn hinweist. Die Betroffenen leiden an einer verzerrten Wahrnehmung ihrer Umgebung in Richtung auf eine feindselige (im Extrem bösartig verfolgende) Haltung ihrer Person gegenüber. Die Folgen reichen über ängstliches oder aggressives Misstrauen bis hin zu der Überzeugung, von der Verschwörung anderer gegen sich selbst.

La paranoïa (du grec  pará « à côté » et noûs « esprit ») est au sens premier une maladie mentale chronique du groupe des psychoses, caractérisée par un délire d'un type particulier dit délire paranoïaque pour lequel il existe plusieurs thèmes récurrents. Il faut en différencier la personnalité paranoïaque, qui est un caractère particulier chez certains sujets, mais sans développement d'un délire (même si une personnalité paranoïaque peut évoluer vers une authentique paranoïa). Dans un sens dérivé, le terme paranoïa est aujourd'hui dans le langage commun ou journalistique utilisé pour rendre compte d'états comme la méfiance, la suspicion ou le scepticisme, qui ne sont pas en eux-mêmes pathologiques.

Paranoia to gra fabularna osadzona w dystopijnych realiach, podobnych do tych, jakie istniały w powieściach Roku 1984 czy Nowy, wspaniały świat. Jednak zamiast ciężkiego, nawet opresyjnego klimatu wspomnianych dzieł, w grze dominuje czarny humor. Konwencja bliższa jest raczej polskiemu filmowi Seksmisja.

Zespół paranoiczny (dawniej paranoja prawdziwa, obłęd) - z grec. para - "obok, poza" i noos - "rozum, sens" - obecnie, według ICD-10, nazywana zespołem paranoicznym (reakcją paranoiczną). W DSM-IV zespół ten nosi nazwę zespół urojeniowy ("delusional disorder"). Są to usystematyzowane urojenia (najczęściej prześladowcze i oddziaływania, rzadziej wielkościowe lub inne). Istotne jest z psychopatologicznego punktu widzenia, że urojenia paranoiczne są osądami, które są możliwe do zaistnienia, w przeciwieństwie do urojeń paranoidalnych.
