orthography

The orthography of a language specifies the correct way of using a specific writing system to write the language. (Where more than one writing system is used for a language, for example for Kurdish, there can be more than one orthography.) Orthography is derived from Greek ὀρθός orthós ("correct") and γράφειν gráphein ("to write"). Orthography is distinct from typography.

L’orthographe (des racines grecques  orthὀs, « droit, correct », et graphḗ, « écriture ») désigne l'ensemble des normes qui règlent la façon d'écrire dans une langue. Toutes les langues n'ont pas connu cette standardisation de leur écriture, certaines n'ayant pas un rayonnement justifiant une telle normalisation. En fait, dès qu'une langue dépasse le simple cadre du parler dialectal ou régional, son nombre de locuteurs devenant plus important, on est contraint de fixer des règles afin de faciliter la mutuelle compréhension des locuteurs.

Die Orthographie, -grafie (v. griech.  „recht/richtig“ und „Schrift“) oder Rechtschreibung (seit der zweiten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts als Übersetzung des griech.-lat. Terminus orthographía) ist die allgemein geltende Schreibung der Wörter einer Sprache in der verwendeten Schrift. Eine regelwidrige Schreibung wird allgemein als Rechtschreibfehler bezeichnet.

Ortografia (z gr. ορθο- ortho- = "poprawny" i γραφος -grafos = "piszący") inaczej pisownia – zbiór zasad i norm regulujących sposób zapisu słów danego języka za pomocą liter alfabetu lub innych symboli.
