Ornamental plant
Ornamental plants are plants that are grown for decorative purposes in gardens and landscape design projects, as houseplants, for cut flowers and specimen display. The cultivation of these forms a major branch of horticulture.

Zierpflanze
Zierpflanzen sind Kulturpflanzen, die vom Menschen zur Erbauung, beziehungsweise für zweckgebundene Anpflanzungen kultiviert werden. Zierpflanzenkulturen werden von Gärtnern der Fachrichtung Zierpflanzenbau (blühende Topfpflanzen, Blatt- und Grünpflanzen, Schnittblumen, Beet- und Balkonpflanzen), Baumschule (Zierbäume, -sträucher, Stauden) sowie Staudenbau (Zierstauden) kultiviert.

Plante ornementale
Une plante ornementale est une plante cultivée pour ses qualités ornementales, plutôt que pour sa valeur commerciale ou économique. Elles sont cultivées généralement en extérieur (dans les jardins publics ou privés et les parcs), mais aussi en intérieur (plantes d'appartement).

Pianta ornamentale
La pianta ornamentale è un tipo di pianta adatto ad abbellire appartamenti o giardini. La sua coltivazione risale a tempi antichi, da quando cioè l'uomo ha desiderato rendere più confortevole ed accogliente il luogo in cui vive.
La scelta di una pianta ornamentale è condizionata dal luogo dove si intende collocarla (appartamento, giardino, vaso sul balcone, ...), dalle esigenze colturali, dal tempo che si dedica alle cure e dalle inclinazioni personali.

Sierteelt
Sierteelt is de teelt van siergewassen. De teelt vindt zowel in de vollegrond (open teelt) als onder glas en in plastic tunnels plaats.
De sierteelt kan onderverdeeld worden in de teelt van:
- Bloemkwekerijgewassen
- Snijbloemen, zoals chrysant, roos, pioenroos enz.
- Potplanten, zoals Kaaps viooltje, cyclaam, potchrysant enz.
- Perkplanten, zoals viooltje, petunia enz.
- Vaste planten, zoals hortensia, gewone margriet, enzovoort.
- Bollen, zoals tulp, hyacint, narcis, enzovoort.
- Knolgewas, zoals Dahlia
- Boomkwekerijgewassen
- Houtige gewassen, zoals forsythia, sering, esdoorn, enzovoort.
- soms wordt ook de graszodenteelt hiertoe gerekend.
