An organization (or organisation — see spelling differences) is a social group which distributes tasks for a collective goal. The word itself is derived from the Greek word organon, itself derived from the better-known word ergon - as we know `organ` - and it means a compartment for a particular job. There are a variety of legal types of organizations, including: corporations, governments,  non-governmental organizations, international organizations, armed forces,  charities, not-for-profit corporations, partnerships, cooperatives, and universities. A hybrid organization is a body that operates in both the public sector and the private sector, simultaneously fulfilling public duties and developing commercial market activities. As a result the hybrid organization becomes a mixture of a government and a corporate organization.

Organisation (gr. ὄργανον órganon „Werkzeug“) lässt sich am treffendsten mit „Bewerkstelligung“ übersetzen, lässt sich im Allgemeinen aber nicht eindeutig definieren. In den Wissenschaften werden dem Begriff drei allgemeine Bedeutungen zugeschrieben: als Instrument, als Funktion und als Institution.

Une organisation est toute structure (ou société) suivant une logique propre pour l'atteinte d'un but spécifique.
Une organisation est un ensemble d'éléments en interaction, regroupés au sein d'une structure régulée, ayant un système de communication pour faciliter la circulation de l'information, dans le but de répondre à des besoins et d'atteindre des objectifs déterminés.

Organisation, ordnandet av olika delar till inbördes samverkan, eller en större sammanslutning (till exempel bolag, facklig organisation, förening). Från grekiskans organon: "verktyg", "redskap". Det vetenskapliga studiet av organisationers funktionssätt brukar benämnas organisationsteori.

Organizacja (gr. - uporządkowanie) to celowa grupa społeczna, która funkcjonuje według pewnych reguł i zasad, współpracująca ze sobą - by osiągnąć określony cel. Istotą organizacji jest świadomość zasad, reguł, misji, celów oraz synergia (dopasowanie, wspomaganie działań innych).
