Oregano ( or ), scientifically named Origanum vulgare by Carolus Linnaeus, is a common species of Origanum, a genus of the mint family (Lamiaceae). It is native to warm-temperate western and southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region.

Oregano (Aussprache: []) (Origanum vulgare, Syn.: Origanum creticum Loureiro, O. normale D.Don, O. vulgare var. formosanum Hayata; span. orégano, ital. origano, griech. ορίγανον [oríganon], neugr. ρίγανη [rígani]), auch Dorst, Dost, Echter Dost, Gemeiner Dost oder Wilder Majoran, ist eine Gewürz- und Heilpflanze in der Familie der Lippenblütler (Lamiaceae).
