Optics is the branch of physics which involves the behavior and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. Optics usually describes the behavior of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. Because light is an electromagnetic wave, other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays, microwaves, and radio waves exhibit similar properties.

OPTICS ("Ordering Points To Identify the Clustering Structure") is an algorithm for finding density-based clusters in spatial data. It was presented by Mihael Ankerst, Markus M. Breunig, Hans-Peter Kriegel and Jörg Sander. Its basic idea is similar to DBSCAN, but it addresses one of DBSCAN's major weaknesses: the problem of detecting meaningful clusters in data of varying density. In order to do so, the points of the database are (linearly) ordered such that points which are spatially closest become neighbors in the ordering. Additionally, a special distance is stored for each point that represents the density that needs to be accepted for a cluster in order to have both points belong to the same cluster. This is represented as a dendrogram.

Optik (griech. οπτικη optike ,Lehre vom Sichtbaren‘, optiko ,zum Sehen gehörig‘, zu opsis ,das Sehen‘) ist ein Bereich der Physik, der sich mit der Ausbreitung von Licht und dessen Wechselwirkung mit Materie, insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit optischen Abbildungen, beschäftigt. Optik wird daher auch als die Lehre vom Licht bezeichnet. Zusätzlich wird die Summe aller optischen Bauteile eines optischen Gerätes Optik genannt.

Optyka wypracowała specyficzne metody pierwotnie przeznaczone do badania światła, stosowane obecnie także do badania rozchodzenia się innych zakresów promieniowania elektromagnetycznego podczerwień, ultrafiolet zwane światłem niewidzialnym.
