An optical illusion is always characterized by visually perceived images that, at least in common sense terms, are deceptive or misleading. Therefore, the information gathered by the eye is processed by the brain to give, on the face of it, a  percept that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source. A conventional assumption is that there are physiological illusions that occur naturally and cognitive illusions that can be demonstrated by specific visual tricks that say something more basic about how human perceptual systems work. They trick your eye to make it seem like there is no illusion sometimes.

Les termes illusion d'optique se rapportent à toute illusion qui trompe le système visuel humain (depuis l'œil jusqu'au cerveau) et aboutit à une perception déformée de la réalité. Les illusions d'optiques peuvent survenir naturellement ou être créées par des astuces visuelles spécifiques qui permettent de mettre en évidence les principes de fonctionnement du système visuel humain.

Eine Optische Täuschung oder auch Visuelle Illusion ist eine Wahrnehmungstäuschung des Gesichtssinns. Optische Täuschungen können nahezu alle Aspekte des Sehens betreffen. Es gibt Tiefenillusionen, Farbillusionen, geometrische Illusionen, Bewegungsillusionen und einige mehr. In all diesen Fällen scheint das Sehsystem falsche Annahmen über die Natur des Sehreizes zu treffen, wie sich unter Zuhilfenahme weiterer Sinne oder durch Entfernen der auslösenden Faktoren zeigen lässt.

Złudzenie optyczne - błędna interpretacja mózgu obrazu pod wpływem kontrastu, cieni, użycia kolorów, które automatycznie wprowadzają mózg w błędny tok myślenia. Złudzenie wynika z mechanizmów działania percepcji, które zazwyczaj pomagają w postrzeganiu. W określonych warunkach jednak mogą powodować pozornie tylko prawdziwe wrażenia.

Una illusione ottica è una qualsiasi illusione che inganna l'apparato visivo umano, facendogli percepire qualcosa che non è presente o facendogli percepire in modo scorretto qualcosa che è presente.Le illusioni ottiche possono manifestarsi naturalmente o essere dimostrate da specifici trucchi visuali che mostrano particolari assunzioni del sistema percettivo umano. In base al meccanismo che ne è causa quindi, si hanno tre categorie di illusioni:ottiche, quando sono causate da fenomeni puramente ottici e pertanto non dipendenti dalla fisiologia umana;percettive, in quanto generate dalla fisiologia dell'occhio. Un esempio sono le immagini postume che si possono vedere chiudendo gli occhi dopo avere fissato un'immagine molto contrastata e luminosa;cognitive, dovute all'interpretazione che il cervello da delle immagini. Un caso tipico sono le figure impossibili e i paradossi prospettici.
