Oil well
An oil well is a general term for any boring through the Earth's surface that is designed to find and acquire petroleum oil hydrocarbons. Usually some natural gas is produced along with the oil. A well that is designed to produce mainly or only gas may be termed a gas well.

Erdöl
Erdöl ist ein in der Erdkruste eingelagertes, hauptsächlich aus Kohlenwasserstoffen bestehendes lipophiles Stoffgemisch. Es ist ein fossiler Energieträger und dient zur Erzeugung von Elektrizität und als Treibstoff fast aller Verkehrs- und Transportmittel. Daneben wird Erdöl in der chemischen Industrie zur Herstellung von Kunststoffen und anderen Chemieprodukten vielfach eingesetzt. Erdöl ist derzeit der wichtigste Rohstoff der modernen Industriegesellschaften. Deshalb wird es auch „Schwarzes Gold“ genannt. Allein in den Jahren von 2000 bis 2007 wurden etwa 200 bis 220 Milliarden Barrel des Rohstoffs weltweit gefördert. Ein Barrel entspricht 159 Liter.

油井
油層の圧力が高い状態では原油は自然に噴出する（自噴する）が、油層の圧力が低い状態では自噴せずポンプによるくみ上げにより原油を採取する。これらの方法を一次回収という。
一次回収で回収できるのは油層に含まれる原油の一部でしかなく、一次回収では生産ができなくなった油井では、水やガスを油層に注入し残った原油を加圧して回収する。これを二次回収という。

Нефтяная скважина
Нефтяна́я сква́жина — вертикальная (как правило; скважины могут буриться под любым углом к горизонту) горная выработка круглого сечения, диаметром чаще всего 75 — 400 мм, предназначенная для разведки либо добычи нефти и попутного газа.
В вертикальном строении скважины различают начало (устье), ствол и конец (забой). Скважины сооружаются путём последовательного бурения горных пород, удаления разбуренного материала и (при необходимости) укрепления стенок скважины от разрушения. Для бурения применяются буровые станки, буровые долота и другие механизмы.
