The oculomotor nerve is the 3rd of 12 paired cranial nerves. It enters the orbit via the superior orbital fissure and controls most of the eye's movements, including constriction of the pupil and maintaining an open eyelid by innervating the levator palpebrae superiors muscle. The occulomotor nerve is derived from the basal plate of the embryonic midbrain. Cranial nerves IV and VI also participate in control of eye movement.

Der Nervus oculomotorius (Augenbewegungsnerv) ist der dritte von zwölf paarigen Hirnnerven. Er innerviert vier von sechs äußeren Augenmuskeln, zwei innere Augenmuskeln sowie den Lidheber.

Nerw okoruchowy (łac. nervus oculomotorius) – III  nerw czaszkowy. Ma charakter mieszany - zawiera włókna ruchowe, autonomiczne (parasympatyczne) oraz czuciowe. Jest nerwem ruchowym gałki ocznej. Unerwia mięsień dźwigacz powieki górnej oraz wszystkie mięśnie zewnętrzne oka, z wyjątkiem mięśni prostego bocznego i skośnego górnego. W skład nerwu okoruchowego wchodzą także włókna przywspółczulne, unerwiające zwieracze źrenicy. Posiada też włókna czuciowe przebiegające od unerwianych przez niego mięśni.
