The genus is native to the northern hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cold latitudes to tropical Asia and the Americas.

One of three international airports in the San Francisco Bay Area, airlines serving Oakland International provide service to numerous destinations in the United States, as well as Mexico. It has proven a popular alternative to San Francisco International, thanks largely to a heavy Southwest Airlines presence. In 2006, 14.4 million passengers used the airport.[1]

Le chêne est le nom vernaculaire de nombreuses espèces d'arbres et d'arbustes appartenant au genre Quercus, et à certains genres apparentés, notamment Cyclobalanopsis et Lithocarpus de la famille des Fagacées. Le genre est présent dans tout l'hémisphère nord, et comprend à la fois des espèces à feuilles caduques et d'autres à feuilles persistantes et dont l'aire de répartition s'étend depuis les froides latitudes jusqu'aux zones tropicales de l'Asie et des Amériques.

Die Eichen (Quercus) sind eine Gattung von Laubgehölzen aus der Familie der Buchengewächse (Fagaceae). Der deutsche Name ist mit dem lateinischen esca = Speise verwandt, was darauf hinweist, dass die Früchte des Baumes früher große Bedeutung für die Schweinehaltung hatten.Die Gattung umfasst etwa 600 Arten, davon 450 in der Quercus und 150 in der Untergattung Cyclobalanopsis. Bei dem römischen Autor Quintus Ennius (* 239 v. Chr.; † 169 v. Chr.) findet sich der früheste literarische Beleg für den lateinischen Namen des Baums, 'quercus'.

Dąb (Quercus L.) - rodzaj drzew, rzadziej wysokich krzewów zaliczony do rodziny bukowatych (Fagaceae Dumort.). Należy do niego ok. 600 gatunków występujących prawie wyłącznie w strefie umiarkowanej półkuli północnej oraz w wyższych partiach gór strefy tropikalnej. Najdalej na południe występują na Wyspach Sundajskich.
